W121 190 SL
The Timeless Appeal of the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL W121
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (W121), a two-door luxury roadster, was produced from May 1955 to February 1963. First unveiled as a prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show, the 190 SL quickly gained popularity for its elegant design and impressive engineering. With an optional removable hardtop, this model offered versatility and style, capturing the essence of luxury driving.
Elegance in motion.
The 190 SL served as a more accessible alternative to the prestigious Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, while still sharing its core styling and engineering features. It boasted fully independent suspension with double wishbones at the front and swing axles at the rear, ensuring a smooth and dynamic driving experience. The robust R121 structure, derived from the W121 base saloon, provided a solid foundation for this stylish roadster.
Innovation meets tradition
Performance meets sophistication.
Under the hood, the 190 SL was powered by a newly developed 1.9-liter straight-four SOHC engine, delivering 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp). This engine, based on the 300 SL’s straight-six, featured twin-choke dual Solex carburetors and produced 120 hp (89 kW; 122 PS) in its most potent form. This powertrain ensured that the 190 SL offered a spirited and enjoyable driving experience, perfectly balancing performance and refinement.
