Mercedes-Benz 280 SE W111 Coupé / Cabriolet
Introducing the Mercedes-Benz 280 SE W111 Coupé/Cabriolet
The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE W111 Coupé and Cabriolet, produced between 1961 and 1971, are iconic representations of luxury and engineering excellence. These two-door masterpieces, with their elegant design and advanced features, have become symbols of sophistication and performance. With their distinctive tailfins, or "Heckflosse" in German, these models stand out as timeless classics in the Mercedes-Benz lineage.
Timeless design, eternal appeal
The design of the W111 Coupé and Cabriolet was led by engineer Paul Bracq, who gave these models a refined and square rear-end treatment, differentiating them from the sharp-edged tailfins of the saloon. The coupé debuted at the 75th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in 1961, followed by the convertible at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The convertible featured a soft-top roof that folded neatly into a recess behind the rear seat, covered by a matching leather boot. These design choices emphasized both elegance and practicality.
